Economy

Economy Township was formed from the southern part of New Sewickley Township in 1827. In 1957 residents of the township petitioned for borough status which was adopted January 1, 1958.

Fun facts about Economy:

-The Economy oil field was discovered in the 1890’s. The 12-square mile oil field, consisting of more than 100 wells, produced as much as 45,000 barrels of oil a day during peak production. By 1910, oil production declined.

-Construction of Northern Lights Shopping Center began in the late 1950’s.

-In 1967 the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh opened Quigley High School.

-Beaver County opened Economy Park which has a swimming pool.

WalMart opened in 2014.
