Economy Borough

Economy started as a township in 1827, formed from the southern part of New Sewickley Township. In 1957, residents of the township petitioned for borough status, and it was adopted January 1, 1958.

Fun facts about Economy:

-The Economy oil field was discovered in the 1890’s. The 12-square mile oil field, consisting of more than 100 wells, produced as much as 45,000 barrels of oil a day during peak production. By 1910, oil production declined.

Northern Lights Shopping Center began to be constructed in the late 1950’s.

-In 1967, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh opened Quigley High School.

-The county opened Economy Park which has a swimming pool.

WalMart opened in the borough in 2014.
